    First Oil In 2007

The Egbaoma (formerly Umutu /Asuokpu) structure is situated in northern Niger Delta with four (4) Host Communities. The Egbaoma field farm-out area  covering approximately 136 square kilometres is situated in OML 38, onshore in Delta State. OML 38 is located in the Northern section of the Niger Delta sedimentary basin. Platform Petroleum won the field in the 2003/2004 marginal field bid rounds and commenced field development activities in 2005 with workover and completion of 2 Wells with 3 completions in three of the eight reservoirs in the major structure cutting across the field in Joint Venture Partnership with Newcross Petroleum.  A 10,000-bopd and 30mmscfd capacity  flowstation 10,000 bbls storage tank, 32 Km 6-inches export line from the Flowstation  to the Group Gathering Facility (GGF) and  16Km export line from the GGF to NAOC Kwale tie-in point to the Brass Terminal  was completed and commissioned in the fourth quarter  of 2007 to achieve first Oil.

    Field Summary

    > Egbaoma Field is located on OML 38, Northern depo-belt, Niger Delta Basin

    > The field is located along Sapele – Agbor Road in Northern Part of Delta State

    > Discovered in 1977 by Umutu-1 (Egbaoma-1), a vertical well drilled.

    > The field was awarded to Platform Petroleum in 2003 and the license was renewed in March, 2011

    > Nine wells drilled in the field till date

    > Field separated into Northern, Central and Southern sub-blocks by series of East – West trending and generally South dipping Synthetic faults, with growth fault and associated roll-over anticlinal structucture.

    Field Development Activities

Since the first oil in 2007, Platform Petroleum has carried out over 9 workover operations, drilled 3 Wells, and executed 2 side tracks in the field to date. Following the changing characteristics of the crude from the initial black oil to predominantly condensate, the Flow Station was upgraded in 2013/2014 to include XHP Production and Test Separators to optimize recovery from the gas condensate Wells and to be able to handle 40MMscfd gas production.   The philosophy of field development also changed to include building a 30MMscfd of Gas Plant to commercialize the gas resources in the field which was later divested to PNG in 2014.

In 2020, a 20,000bbl Storage Tank was commissioned to provide additional storage. Built and Installed 30MMscfd Lean Gas Compression system (2020) and commissioned the Gas Compression station with 2 nos. 10MMscfd Gas compressors for injection of gas to NGC OB-3 gas pipeline. The second Facility Upgrade which includes the second bank of XHP and HP Separators with a Condensate Stabilizer package to handle expected production increase from planned future drilling activities is currently ongoing. Upon completion, it would increase the Flow Station capacity to 10,000bbl/d of oil and 60MMscfd of gas.

    Gas Commercialization

As part of efforts to monetize produced gas from the Egbaoma Marginal Field and comply with the Federal Government’s zero flare policy, Platform Petroleum Limited (PPL) and its JV Partner (Newcross Petroleum Limited) have put in place strategies that will ensure full compliance with the Federal Government’s zero flare policy and at the same time generate an economic reward for the Platform/Newcross JV through a gas commercialization program.

The gas commercialization is in phases and each phase is targeted at reducing volume of gas that is being flared by putting in place infrastructure to ensure the utilization/commercialization of the targeted volume.
